About Us
In a tradition rooted in manly deeds, scholarship, and a deep love for all mankind, the Alpha Lambda Education Foundation (ALEF) was established with a clear and purposeful vision: to uplift, empower, and invest in the next generation. Since its founding in 1999, ALEF has stood as a beacon of opportunity, committed to creating pathways for success for those who need it most.
Organized as a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation, ALEF is driven by a mission to promote community service, leadership development, and educational advancement—particularly among at-risk youth, with a focused commitment to supporting young African American males. Through intentional programming and meaningful engagement, the Foundation works to inspire confidence, cultivate leadership, and open doors to academic and personal achievement.
Over the years, ALEF has developed and supported impactful initiatives that shape lives and strengthen communities. Signature programs such as the Hope Breakfast, Project Alpha ™, Go to High School, Go to College™, the Miss Black and Gold Competition, and the Scholastic Chess Tournament serve as platforms for mentorship, recognition, and growth. Each initiative reflects the Foundation’s belief that exposure, encouragement, and structure can transform potential into purpose.
At its core, the Alpha Lambda Education Foundation exists exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, operating in alignment with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation proudly provides academic scholarships through its Academic Scholarship Program while also extending its reach through a variety of Community Outreach Programs. These efforts ensure that financial barriers do not stand in the way of ambition, and that communities receive the support needed to thrive.
ALEF is more than an organization—it is a commitment to service, a catalyst for change, and a partner in the journey toward excellence. Through every program, scholarship, and initiative, the Foundation continues to honor its legacy while building a stronger future for generations to come.
The Alpha Lambda Education Foundation (ALEF) was brought to life through the vision, leadership, and commitment of a distinguished group of men dedicated to service, education, and community empowerment. Their foresight and passion laid the groundwork for what ALEF continues to represent today, a lasting investment in youth, scholarship, and opportunity.
Serving as the Incorporator, Dr. Gregory Woolfolk, played a pivotal role in establishing the Foundation’s legal and organizational framework, ensuring that ALEF would stand as a structured and sustainable force for good.
Supporting this vision was a founding board of directors whose collective leadership and diverse expertise helped shape the Foundation’s early direction and impact:
